Remember the Stabbath day, to keep it holey

Only my second post this month!

This is a new art for a Vault classic, the 42" Drop Carve longboard. The client felt the deck needed a bit of a facelift despite being a really popular board.

I was inspired by the crazy cultists and their weapons in Mike Mignola's BPRD, and especially Guy Davis' designs. I deliberately didn't go back and look at their work when I had this idea though, as I didn't want their styles to influence this piece, I just wanted the ideas I guess.

  2. I like it! The blade it really nicely drawn, but I think the cobra might be too cute? maybe if the eyes were a bit more angry.. that could be kind of a cliche though.. what did snakes eyes look like on historical artifacts? kind of neutral maybe?

  3. Thanks guys!

I see what you mean Pete. I did do the face from photo reference - like most reptiles, snakes seem kinda impassive you know? Not sure what sort of expression they had on historical artifacts. I was considering having the mouth open, like it was about to strike, maybe that would have been better? In the end the client has rejected this one anyway, but for different reasons! Oh well.
